South Korea’s temporary workers up 2.1% in March

The number of temporary workers in South Korea improved by 2.1% year over year to approximately 4.67 million in March 2024, according to data released by Statistics Korea.

Temporary workers increased by 1.4% in March 2024 when compared to the previous month. The temporary employment data is not seasonally adjusted.

Meanwhile, South Korea's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate stood at 2.8% in March 2024, up 0.1% from the year prior and up from 0.2% from the month prior.

On a non-seasonally adjusted basis, the unemployment rate was 3.0% in March, up 0.1% year-on-year.

The number of unemployed persons totalled 892,000 people in March, which increased 52,000 persons or 6.2%, year-on-year.

Meanwhile, the number of employed persons totalled 28.39 million persons in March, which went up 173,000 persons or 0.6% year-on-year.

The employment to population ratio recorded 62.4% in March, up 0.2%, year-on-year.

At the same time the economically active population marked 29.28 million persons in March, which grew 225,000 persons or 0.8% year-on-year.

The country’s labour force participation rate stood at 64.3% in March, up 0.2% year-on-year.

Further data from Statistics Korea showed the economically inactive population totalled 16.24 million people in March, decreasing 63,000 persons or 0.4% year-on-year.
