South Korea – Proportion of non-regular workers slips 0.9% in August (Xinhua)

25 October 2022

The proportion of South Korea's non-regular workers fell due to a faster increase in regular employees than non-regular ones, reports Xinhua, citing data from Statistics Korea. The ratio of non-regular workers, including part-timers, daily labourers and outsourced workers, stood at 37.5% of the total wage and salary earners in August, down 0.9% from a year earlier. The number of non-regular workers increased by 90,000 to 8.15 million in the cited month, while the reading for regular workers jumped by 641,000 to 13,568,000. The labour market gradually returned to normalcy from the Covid-19 pandemic shock, especially among elderly people, the office stated. Earlier this month, the office published figures on the number of temporary workers in South Korea, showing a 2.4% decline year-on-year to 4.77 million in September 2022.
