South Korea – Number of temporary workers slips 1.1% in July, unemployment rate improves to 2.9%

The number of temporary workers in South Korea reported a decrease of 1.1% year over year to 4.82 million in July 2022, according to data from Statistics Korea.

When compared to the previous month the number of temporary workers in South Korea rose by 0.2% in July 2022.

Meanwhile, further labour market data showed that the unemployment rate marked 2.9% in July, down 0.3% year-on-year. On a seasonally adjusted basis, the unemployment rate also stood at 2.9% in July 2022, down from 3.3% in July 2021.

The number of unemployed persons totalled 836,000 people in July, which decreased 84,000 persons or 9.1% year-on-year.

The number of employed persons totalled 28.47 million persons in July, which went up 826,000 persons or 3.0% year-on-year.

The economically active population marked 29.31 million persons in July, which grew 743,000 persons or 2.6% year-on-year. The labour force participation rate stood at 64.8% in July, up 1.4% year-on-year.
