Singapore – Vaccine mandates on the rise as hiring activity surges

20 October 2021

According to a study by Indeed, vaccination requirements for new workers are a rapidly increasing trend in Singapore. The number of job postings in Singapore requiring vaccinations on 30 September was 19 times higher than two months prior. At the end of September, one in 900 job postings mentioned vaccine requirements, up from one in 17,000 at the end of July.

Indeed’s APAC Economist Callam Pickering points out that “Singapore’s vaccination requirements are relatively low by global standards but are growing rapidly.” He notes the government is pushing for greater vaccination to get the population back to normal.

This comes amidst hiring activity that reached a new high in September. Total job postings on Indeed at the end of September were up 68% from 1 February 2020 (seasonally adjusted). Job postings have been greater than pre-Covid levels since October of last year, and in spite of lockdowns, have continued to rise in recent months.

Job postings in every occupation category were up versus their pre-pandemic levels. The highest growth was seen in production roles, up 132% from February 2020, installation & maintenance (up 99%), transportation (up 96%) and food preparation (up 93%).

Slower growth was seen in job postings for social science & law, community and customer and personal service positions.
