Job scammers in Singapore are actively targeting members of the public by misrepresenting themselves as Randstad employees on messaging service Telegram, according to Randstad Singapore.

Randstad said it is aware of recent incidents involving individuals and/or organisations that are impersonating Randstad employees using fake e-business cards on Telegram.

According to Randstad, the fraudsters introduced themselves as employees of Randstad or Randstad Sourceright on Telegram and used images of fake e-business cards and job advertisements to connect with users.

Individuals were then asked to click on an external link where they were brought to a fraudulent website to enter personal information such as their phone number (including their PayNow number, a service offered by certain banks that allows for sending and receiving funds from one bank to another using a mobile number), bank account name, bank account number and affiliated bank.

Randstad advised that if a job offer looks too good to be true, it is very likely to be a scam.

Randstad added that its employees undergo formal training to ensure a transparent and respectable candidate sourcing and screening process.

The group also advised:

• Randstad employees do not use Telegram in their professional capacity.
• Randstad employees will never ask you for your age or whether you are above 18 years old on messaging platforms.
• Randstad employees do not use digital name cards to verify their identity. They will only use their business email accounts (@randstad.com.sg), professional LinkedIn accounts, video conferencing and face-to-face meetings to engage with candidates throughout the recruitment process.
• Randstad employees do not send job offers or job descriptions over messaging platforms. Job offers made by Randstad employees will always include an employment contract that will only be sent to you from a business email account (@randstad.com.sg).

One example of a fraud is that scammers will often send images or screenshots of fake corporate name cards or job postings to people. Randstad said these fake e-business cards can be differentiated from a genuine company name cards or job advertisements due to its consultants using their first and last names and job titles as well as contact details specific to a certain consultant as opposed to generic contact information.
