23 February 2023

More fresh-out-of-college graduates in Singapore are finding full-time employment than even before the Covid-19 pandemic, according to a 2022 report by the Ministry of Education of the Joint Autonomous Universities Graduate Employment Survey.

In 2022, 87.5% of fresh graduates were able to secure full-time jobs, up from 84% in 2021, 69.8% in 2020, and 81.7% in 2019.

The median monthly salaries for fresh college graduates in full time jobs also saw an improvement in the last three years, from SGD 3,600 (2,688 USD) in 2019, SGD 3,700 (2,762 USD) in 2020, SGD 3,800 (2,837 USD) in 2021, to SGD 4,200 (3,135 USD) in 2022.

Although full-time employment improved for college graduates, when combined overall to include part-time and freelance work, a slight dip was recorded from 94.4% in 2021 down to 93.8 in 2022.

Six universities participated in the study:

  • National University of Singapore (NUS)
  • Nanyang Technological University (NTU)
  • Singapore Management University (SMU)
  • Singapore University of Social Sciences (SUSS)
  • Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD)
  • Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT)

NTU touted higher salaries and employment rates among its graduates, noting that its class of 2022 earned a mean gross monthly salary of SGD 4,443 (3,317 USD) for full-time positions, and that graduates from its National Institute of Education, Medicine, double degrees in Business and Computer Engineering/Computing, double degrees in Engineering and Economics, Sport Science and Management, and Biomedical Sciences and Chinese Medicine achieved 100% employment.

SMU also announced that 95.1% of its 2022 graduates across all six of their degree programs were employed within six months. The median monthly gross salary of graduates in full time positions was SGD 4,500 (3,360 USD), up from SGD 4,000 (2,986 USD).
