Philippines – Government to file case against recruitment firms following murder in Kuwait (Manila Bulletin)

03 February 2023

The Philippines Department of Migrant Workers plans to file a recruitment violation case against two recruitment firms that facilitated sending contingent worker Jullebee Ranara to Kuwait, the Manila Bulletin reported. Ranara was found burned and dead in the Kuwait desert on 21 January, and the suspect is the 17-year-old son of her employer, the newspaper reported. “Upon of review of the case involved and with the existing facts, we already issued an order preventively suspending the employer of [overseas foreign worker] Jullebee Ranara,” the Manila Bulletin quoted Department of Migrant Workers Undersecretary Bernard Olalia. “We also called upon the representative of PRA (Philippine recruitment agency) Catalist International Manpower Services Company, and after examination of the facts involved, by next week there will be a recruitment violation case that will be filed against the PRA and the FRA (foreign recruitment agency) involved.”
