Online hiring in India dips 3% in June, but monthly growth shows positive hiring sentiments among employers

Online recruitment in India reported a 3% dip in June 2023 compared to June 2022, according to the latest foundit Insights Tracker.

The Tracker fell to 270 in June 2023 from 279 in June 2022.

Month-on-month, the Tracker registered a 2% increase in June.

While year-on-year figures fell 3%, foundit said there are ‘positive hiring sentiments among employers which can be observed clearly from the month-on-month growth’. It added that this growth is an indicator of the stimulating job market in India.

By industry, 8 of the 27 monitored industries showed an increase in e-recruitment when compared to the year-ago level. The shipping/marine sector led year-on-year growth with a 44% increase. This was followed by travel and tourism (34%).

On the other hand, IT-hardware, software saw the steepest decrease over the year (19%).

Meanwhile, online demand for professionals rose over the year in 4 of the 13 occupational categories monitored by the tracker in June. HR & admin led growth (11%) while customer service recorded the steepest fall at 28%.

Online recruitment exceeded the year-ago level in 2 of the 13 cities.

By experience level, online recruitment decreased by 6% in the 0-3 years’ experience category. Hiring for intermediate level roles with an experience of 4-6 years saw a 23% fall.

Mid-senior level roles with 7-10 years of experience witnessed its all-time low hiring with a decrease of 27% over the year.

Hiring for senior level roles with 11-15 years of experience decreased by 18%. Leadership roles with experience of 16+ years registered a fall of 38%.
