Job ads across New Zealand fell by 11% in March 2023 compared to March 2022, according to the latest research by Seek New Zealand.

By region, Marlborough saw a 13% increase over the year in March, the highest growth among regions in March. On the other hand, Gisborne reported a 17% decrease, the highest decrease among regions.

By industry, hospitality and tourism saw the highest year-on-year increase at 39%. The biggest decrease was seen in the ICT industry at 35%, year-on-year.

On a monthly basis, job ads in New Zealand ticked upward by 1%. Applications per job ads rose by 4% month-on-month.

By region, Hawkes Bay led monthly growth (23%). Meanwhile, West Coast and Bay of Plenty saw the biggest slowdowns (4%) over the month.

The construction industry recorded a 3% decline while accounting saw the highest monthly increase at 6%.
