Job ads on job board Seek New Zealand were down 10% in December 2022 when compared to December 2021, according to the job board’s seasonally adjusted data.

When compared to November 2022, job ads fell by 6%. Applications per job ad rose by 14% in December 2022.

Seek’s data also found that by region, year-on-year growth was led by Otago (11%) while on the other hand Tasman reported the biggest decline over the year at -23%.

On a monthly basis, Seek data showed that the Manawatu region led growth at 6% while Southland reported the biggest monthly decline at -12%.

By industry, both Engineering (-22%) and ICT (-22%) reported the biggest year-on-year decline while the Hospitality and Tourism industry saw the biggest increase over the year at 14%.

On a month-to-month basis, Engineering reported the biggest decline of 15%. The biggest increase was seen in Construction (9%).
