New Zealand – Job ads fall by 13% year over year in January: Seek

Nationally, job ads in New Zealand were down 13% year over year in January, according to job board operator Seek.

Among the top 10 industries by job ad volume, the biggest year-over-year declines in jobs were in construction, down 27%; “information and communication technology,” down 26%; and engineering, down 18%. On the other hand, “hospitality and tourism” job ads rose by 36% year over year.

The three regions with the biggest year-over-year declines in job ads were Northland, down 22%; Tasman, down 21%; and Bay of Plenty, down 19%.

Two regions showed increases in jobs ads: Gisborne, up 11%, and Otago, up 6%.

In Auckland, the number of ads fell by 13% year over year.
