Most users of generative AI in Japan see uptick in efficiency

Approximately 80% of users of generative AI in Japan experience improvement in work efficiency, according to a study by Persol Innovation and Digirise Co., Ltd.

By company size, the study showed that among those who answered that their work efficiency had improved, this was most prevalent among large companies (83.2%) and small and medium-sized companies (77.1%).

The study found that when asked, ``Do you use generative AI in your work?'' at your company , 33.8% of respondents answered that they use generative AI at least once a month.

The usage rate by company size is start-ups (50%), large companies (44%), and small and medium-sized enterprises (26%). Among start-ups, about half of all companies are actively incorporating generative AI into their operations.

When asked about the type of generation AI they use, text generation AI (80.8%) came out on top, far surpassing the second-place image generation AI (33.1%).

As for the main purpose of using AI, the study showed that the top three purposes were text generation (54.9%), text summarisation (42.8%) and planning (24.9%).

Meanwhile, approximately 80% of those who use generative AI feel that there are challenges. By company size, the percentage of people who are aware of the issues breaks down as follows: large companies (85.4%), small and medium-sized companies (67.1%), and start-ups (70%). It was found that over 70% of people felt there were issues with utilising generative AI.

When asked about the challenges they feel through the use of generative AI, the most common answer (42.8%) was “concerns about the accuracy and reliability of the content.”

Takashi Kimura, digital marketing department manager, Persol Innovation Co., Ltd., said, “These findings demonstrate that when companies adopt generative AI, they need to not only pursue efficiency, but also ensure that its use is safe, reliable, and of high quality.”
