Malaysia – Online recruitment surges 31% in June: Monster Employment Index

Online recruitment in Malaysia jumped by 31% in June 2022 when compared to June 2021, according to the latest Monster Employment Index (MEI).

The Monster Employment Index (MEI) increased to 77 in June 2022 from 59 in June 2021.

Month-on-month, the Index saw an increase of 5%.

The Index also noted an increase of 15% over the past six months, adding that the job market has seen a remarkable growth month over month projecting a continuous demand in the job market.

By industry, 8 out of 9 industries monitored by the Index witnessed an increase in job demand in June 2022 annually.

Retail (+321%) leads all industry sectors charting the steepest annual growth in June 2022 owing to huge retail sales as the consumer sentiment index increased above the threshold level.

Oil and Gas (-25%) was the only sector to register the negative growth. The drop in the sector is majorly due to decrease in crude oil production, which is further affecting the hiring demand. noticed a dip in the month of June 2022 from a year ago level.

All nine functional areas monitored by the Index registered increased annual demand in June 2022.

Hospitality & Travel (+162%) roles saw massive demand in June 2022 driven by travel resumption from neighbouring counties coupled with strong domestic tourism.
