Malaysia – Jobless rate improves slightly in August to 4.6%

Malaysia’s unemployment rate stood at 4.6% in August 2021, down 0.2% year-on-year according to research from Statistics Malaysia.

When compared to July 2021, the unemployment rate fell by 0.1%.

The number of unemployed persons decreased by 3.8% when compared to August 2020 and up 1.0% compared to July 2021, to a total of 748,800 persons.

The number of employed persons increased by 0.5% when compared to August 2020 and increased by 1.5% compared to July 2021, to a total of 15.38 million persons.

The labour force in August 2021 stood at 16.13 million persons after registering decreases in the preceding months. The labour force participation rate during the month stood at 68.4%. This was down from 68.3% the month prior.
