Malaysia – Government launches programme to support jobs and economy (Malay Mail)

Malaysia’s government is introducing a new economic recovery programme, reports Malay Mail. The programme is called Pemerkasa (Strategic Programmes to Empower the People and Economy) and is worth MYR 20 billion (USD 4.86 billion). Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said the government is aiming to help small contractors with contracts such as repairing infrastructure and public facilities, renovating strata homes including fixing broken lifts in public housing areas as well as building shops for local communities. It also includes funding for the Wage Subsidy Programme 3.0 for individuals affected in the tourism, wholesale and for those whose businesses have faced closure during the pandemic.
