Malaysia – A third of Generation Z workers switched jobs for better work-life balance in 2022

03 October 2022

A third, or 29%, of Generation Z respondents in Malaysia aged between 18 and 25 years old changed jobs to improve their work-life balance, according to research from Randstad Malaysia.

Randstad Malaysia noted that employees are placing more focus on workplace flexibility after the pandemic, especially the younger workforce generation.

On the other hand, millennials (aged 26 to 41 years old) are likely to negotiate their roles and responsibilities to stay with the same employer, which indicates that they prioritise job stability. Some of these negotiations may include job rotation, career advancement opportunities or a more manageable workload.

When it comes to improving work-life balance, 59% of Generation Z prioritise healthcare benefits, this compared to 55% for Millennials and 55% for Generation X (42 to 57 year olds).
