30 June 2023

Over half of Singaporeans (57%) consider it essential to work for an employer that is invested in diversity, equity, and inclusion (DE&I), according to research from Randstad Singapore.

This sentiment is even stronger among the younger generations, with 2 in 3 Gen Z-ers expressing the same viewpoint.

The research also found that 18% of Singaporeans believe that their employers do not support the protection and inclusion of LGBTQIA+ employees.

“Taking an equitable approach to hiring is critical to fostering a diverse workforce where all individuals have equal opportunities to participate and thrive at work,” Randstad Singapore stated. “When employees feel a sense of purpose and belonging at the workplace, they are able to bring their true selves to work and achieve greater job satisfaction and productivity.”

According to the research 66% of employees agree that their employer offers support for mental health and well-being. At the same time, 63% agree that their employer has an equal pay policy (gender and ethnicity) while 62% also agree that their employer aligned with their personal values.

Meanwhile, 61% of employees agree that their employer takes a stand on equity and inclusion, 51% agree that their employer takes action to limit its impact on the environment and 42% agree that their employer supports protection & inclusion of LGBTQIA+ employees.

Randstad’s data also showed that 79% of respondents find non-monetary benefits important. Of those employees who found non-monetary benefits important, 94% cited a good relationship with my colleagues. The same number (94%) cited a good relationship with their managers. This was followed by convenient location (93%), flexible arrangement (93%) and more autonomy to perform in their role (92%).
