Job seekers in Japan get picky about where they work

24 April 2024

Young job seekers in Japan are becoming choosier over where they work as the number of workers declines, and companies are stepping up their recruitment efforts, including putting more of a focus on work-life balance, Nikkei Asia reported. “Before, companies were the ones choosing from a large batch of applicants, but now students are also selecting the companies, and the asymmetry in that relationship is weakening,” Yosuke Hasegawa, a researcher at Mynavi Career Research Lab, told Nikkei Asia. “More companies take care in listening to applicants’ wishes regarding the kind of jobs they want to do or the region they want to work in.”
