The average hourly wage in July 2023 for temporary workers across three Japanese major metropolitan areas (Kanto, Tokai and Kansai) stood at JPY 1,570 (USD 10.80), up JPY 23 (USD 0.16) from the previous year and up JPY 7 (USD 0.048) from the previous month, according to data from Dip Corp. (2379:TYO), a staffing firm and job board operator based in Tokyo.

The research was based on the job advertisement data for temporary workers posted on Hatarako Net, a job information site for employees, temporary workers, and part-time workers.

Meanwhile, the number of temporary staffing job openings was approximately 153,000, down 4.5% year-on-year and down 3.8% month-on-month.

The average hourly wage in each area is JPY 1,660 (USD 11.42) in the Kanto area, up JPY 13 (USD 0.089) from the previous year, up JPY 2 from the previous month; JPY 1,401 (USD 9.64) in the Tokai area, up JPY 19 (USD 0.13) from the previous year, up JPY 5 (USD 0.034) from the previous month, and JPY 1,453 (USD 9.99) in the Kansai area, an increase of JPY 43 (USD 0.30) from the previous year, increase of JPY 13 (USD 0.089) from the previous month.

Dip Corp also published data on the average hourly wage for part-time workers in July 2023. The research was based on the data posted on the services operated by part-time job information site Baitoru.

The average hourly wage for part-time workers in July was JPY 1,280 (USD 8.80),up JPY 53 (USD 0.36) from the previous year, down JPY 8 (USD 0.055 from the previous month), and the number of job openings posted on Baitoru was about 286,000, up 8.3% from the previous year and down 6.5% from the previous month.

The average part-time worker hourly wage in the Kanto area is JPY 1,287 (USD 8.85), up JPY 16 (USD 0.11) from the previous year, down JPY 14 (USD 0.096) from the previous month); the average hourly wage in the Tokai area is JPY 1,256 (USD 8.64), up JPY 60 (USD 0.41) from the previous year, down JPY 6 (USD 0.041) from the previous month; and the average hourly wage in the Kansai area is JPY 1,281 (USD 8.81), up JPY 60 (USD 0.41) from the previous year, down JPY 7 from the previous month. The average hourly wage in the Kyushu area was JPY 1,280 (USD 8.80), up JPY 133 (USD 0.91) from the previous year, up JPY 24 (USD 0.17) from the previous month.
