Japan’s part-time worker average hourly wage hits record high

The average hourly wage for part-time workers across Japan in August was JPY 1,319 (USD 8.92), a record high and an increase of JPY 89 (USD 0.60) compared to the previous year, and an increase of JPY 39 (0.26) compared to the previous month, according to research from staffing firm and job board Dip Corp and part-time job information site Baitoru.

At the same time, the number of job openings posted on Baituru was approximately 282,000, an increase of 11.8% compared to the previous year but down 1.4% when compared to the previous month.

The average hourly wage in the Kanto area is JPY 1,327 (USD 8.97) an increase of JPY 56 (USD 0.38) compared to the previous year, and an increase of JPY 40 (USD 0.27) compared to the previous month.

The average hourly wage in the Tokai area is JPY 1,302 (USD 8.81), an increase of JPY 96 (USD 0.65) compared to the previous year, and an increase of JPY 46 (USD 0.31) compared to the previous month.

Meanwhile, the average hourly wage in the Kyushu area was JPY 1,335 (USD 9.03), an increase of JPY 177 (USD 1.20) compared to the previous year, an increase of JPY 55 (USD 0.37) compared to the previous month.
