Japan – Most students offered jobs upon university graduation: Recruit

30 March 2023

The rate at which students are offered a job upon graduating from university remains high at 96.8%, the same level as last year, according to a study conducted by Japanese staffing giant Recruit and the Shushoku Mirai Institute.

Data was collected from 7,625 students between 15 March to 17 March 2023.

Recruit also reports that the way in which students are being recruited for work is changing with more than 50% of interviews now being conducted online. However, final interviews increased from the previous year from 49.7% to 59.7%, with the trend differing depending on the process.

The survey also indicates that over half of fresh graduates are willing to join a company they are not familiar with. “Looking at the place of employment, 64.6% of students decided to join a company that they did not know about before starting their job search,” the report states.
