Japan – Average hourly wage for temps rises 1.8% year over year in Kanto, Tokai and Kansai

Recruit Co. Ltd, a Tokyo-based staffing provider and part of Recruit Holdings Co. Ltd. (6098:TYO), reported Thursday the average hourly wage for temporary workers in three major Japanese metro areas — Kanto, Tokai and Kansai — rose 1.8% year over year in November JPY 1,617 (USD 11.83).

The average hourly wage was up 0.8% from October.

Occupations with notable changes included “creative” where the average temp wage was up 3.3% year over year and “manufacturing/logistics/cleaning” up 3.0% year over year.

Here are November’s average hourly wages by metro area:

  • Kanto — up 0.8% year over year to JPY 1,707 (USD 12.49); up 0.8% from October.
  • Tokai — up 2.4% year over year to 1,437 (USD 10.52); up 0.7% from October.
  • Kansai — up 2.2% year over year to JPY 1,457 (USD 10.66); up 0.3% from October.
