Online recruitment in India grew by 7% in June 2021 when compared to June 2020 according to data from the Monster Employment Index.

The Monster Employment Index (MEI) stood at 271 in June 2021 compared to 253 in June 2020.

On a month-on-month basis, the Index saw an increase of 4%.

Online hiring demand in June 2021 exceeded the June 2020 level in 17 of the 27 Industries monitored by the Index.

Year-on-year, Telecom/ISP (Internet service provider) (+39%) marked a significant rise in hiring activity. Also, the IT- Hardware, Software (+32%) and Logistic, Courier/ Freight/ Transportation (+29%) industries showed notable annual growth in e-recruitment activity.

Industries that continued to decline annually are Travel and Tourism (-42%), Education (-27%) and Oil/ Gas/ Petroleum, Power (-18%).

Annual online demand for professionals reflected growth ineight out of 13 functional areas as tracked by the Index.

Monster noted that increased digitisation has surged the online demand for professionals in Software, Hardware, Telecom (+35%). New jobs for professionals in Senior Management (+18%), Engineering/ Production (4%), Finance and Accounts (+2%) and Purchase/ Logistics/ Supply Chain (+2%) witnessed an increase in online hiring activity.

Functional roles in Customer Service (-33%), Sales & Business Development (-16%) continued to struggle in June 2021 compared to June 2020.
