India – Number of active job openings rises slightly in May (Times of India)

07 June 2021

The number of active job openings rose marginally in May when compared to April. With most job openings added during the last two weeks of the month, reports the Times of India, citing data from staffing firm Xpheno. The data showed 205,000 job openings in May from 200,000 in April. The recovery of job openings in May was boosted by the internet-enabled services sector, which had more than 26,000 active openings, a growth of 10% month-on-month. Meanwhile, the software sector saw 4% more active openings in May compared to April. At the same time, the IT services and BFSI (banking, financial services and insurance) sectors remained stagnant.

“The current context of return of widespread lockdowns and with potentially longer tenures, had the internet-enabled players buzzing and prepping for action,” Xpheno stated. “The internet-powered commerce and consumption models are leading the way to bring personal and enterprise agility in the face of geographic lockdowns.”
