India – Nearly half of employees do not plan to switch jobs in 2023 (The Economic Times)

26 April 2023

Nearly half of surveyed employees in India are choosing to stay in their current jobs due to ongoing uncertainties, reports The Economic Times, citing a report by Indeed and Valuvox. The report notes that 47% do not plan to switch jobs and over 37% are instead focusing on career growth in 2023. The report is based on a survey of 1,157 employers and 1,583 jobseekers between January and February 2023 across multiple sectors. Indeed India Head of Sales Sashi Kumar said, “Amidst the ongoing uncertainties, the overall sentiment of jobseekers and employers seems to be cautious. However, some sectors like BFSI and healthcare are witnessing significant hiring, showcasing a strong future for these areas. In 2023, the acceptance of the gig economy at large is also expected to strengthen the job market. Employers now need to focus on devising ways in which they can retain and continue to attract this talent pool,"

The research also noted that the BFSI (banking, financial services and insurance) sector witnessed an increase in hiring with 71% of the sector’s employers hiring during the survey period. Healthcare hiring was at 64%, construction and real estate were at 57%. According to Indeed, media and entertainment (49%), IT (29%), and manufacturing (39%) saw the least hiring. Employers hiring for mid-level roles saw a rise of 27% with senior-level roles up 12%.
