India – Job movements in IT sector to cross 1 million this year (The Hindu)

28 September 2021

The IT sector is set to witness attrition of more than 1.15 million people this financial year, reports The Hindu, citing data from staffing firm Xpheno. Kamal Karanth, co-founder, Xpheno, said, “With an average of 23% attrition projected on a talent base of 5 million, the sector is set to witness over 1 million talent movements this year.” Overall attrition in the sector has not changed in the last four years, but its status shifted from ‘highly involuntary’ until a year earlier to ‘highly voluntary’ in the current fiscal. Xpheno noted that attrition rates for FY20 and FY21 and expected levels for FY22 are largely the same. The difference is the shift from involuntary to voluntary attrition. Voluntary attrition refers to employees quitting of their own accord, likely for better prospects. Karanth pointed out that the onset of the pandemic triggered a wave of involuntary attrition with enterprises ‘cutting down on flab in response to the market lockdown.’
