India – Indian Staffing Federation jobs rise 6% in September quarter (The Economic Times)

20 December 2022

The number of jobs for Indian Staffing Federation members went up by 6% in the July-September quarter with addition of 78,000 new jobs compared to the April-June quarter, reports The Economic Times. The growth was buoyed by a rise in demand for workers across sectors on the back of a strong festive season. New jobs in general staffing grew by 7.3% in the July-September quarter on the back of a rise in demand in FMCG (fast-moving consumer goods), e-commerce, manufacturing, retail, logistics, banking, hospitality, tourism, insurance and infrastructure. However, new jobs in the IT sector grew by just 2.2% during the second quarter.

“New jobs in IT staffing remained under pressure. While the IT staffing Industry continues to address market demands in niche skills, there is a visible impact of the slowdown in global markets even as big Indian IT players curtail new hiring,” the ISF stated. Cumulatively, ISF member companies added 232,000 new jobs over the past four quarters, during the period from October 2022 to September 2023. As of 30 September 2022, Indian Staffing Federation member companies represented 1.4 million flexi-staffing workers across India.
