India – Hiring activity in IT sector picks up in September: Naukri

Hiring in India’s IT sector has been the least impacted compared to other sectors, according to data from jobs site Naukri, which reported that the IT sector recorded a month-on-month recovery, peaking in September for hardware (63%) and software roles (20%).

The report is based on job postings on Naukri.com during February and the months after the lockdown, which was imposed in late-March.

The IT hardware sector saw a growth of 10% in September when compared to the pre-Covid period of February. On the other hand, IT software was down by 28% in October.

According to Naukri, top roles that recruiters are hiring for include software developer, tech lead, tech architect, testing engineer, technical content developer, database architect and solution architect.

Roles such as technical content developer, solution architect and database architect have seen 350%, 150% and 100% growth in demand, year-on-year. At the same time, tech architect roles have seen a growth of over 50% year-on-year.

Meanwhile, Naukri also found that the following cities contribute to 60% of the jobs in the IT sector: Bengaluru (22%), Delhi (13%), Hyderabad (9%), Pune (9%) and Chennai (7%).
