India – Gig workforce to add 9 to 11 million jobs by 2025 (The Business Standard)

08 December 2022

Approximately 9 to 11 million jobs are set to be added to India’s gig workforce by 2025, reports The Business Standard, citing research from Indeed India. The research also polled employers and found that 58% of employers also estimate that 9 to 11 million jobs will be added by 2025. According to the report, companies have also started investing in gig work platforms and processes, which indicates how integral they are to the future of jobs growth in India. Job roles such as delivery couriers are the most prevalent across gig economy jobs.

“With the emergence of app-based models for roles like delivery and home services, there has been some degree of formalisation in this sector. In the coming years, we foresee this segment to grow exponentially," Indeed India head of sales Sashi Kumar said.
