Cisive, a global background screening provider headquartered in New York, purchased the pre-employment screening division of Hong Kong-based Blue Umbrella. The transaction closed 26 November, terms were not disclosed.

The pre-employment screening division of Blue Umbrella, under the leadership and direction of Cisive, will operate in the short term as Blue Umbrella Screening, a Cisive company.

Blue Umbrella will now solely focus on providing third-party compliance research and technology.

“The acquisition of Blue Umbrella PES is a critical step in accelerating Cisive’s global expansion into Asia, EMEA, and South America,” Cisive President and CEO James Owens said. “This will allow both Cisive and Blue Umbrella to better support existing global clients through localized operations and customer support.”

Cisive was founded in 1977 as CARCO Group Inc. CARCO remains as its pre-insurance vehicle inspection and fraud prevention division. Driver iQ is its transportation division, focused on background screening in the long-haul trucking industry.

Blue Umbrella was founded in 2009 in Hong Kong and has more than 250 employees with operations in Chicago, London, Vancouver, Singapore, Tokyo, Penang, New Delhi and São Paulo. Its research products focus on companies and individuals around the world. In addition to providing pre-employment screening services, the company also provides due diligence services.
