China’s urban unemployment rate improves to 5.0% in September

China’s urban surveyed unemployment rate stood at 5.0%, down 0.2% when compared to the previous month, falling for two months in a row, according to data from the National Bureau of Statistics of China.

The data also noted that in the first three quarters, the urban surveyed unemployment rate averaged 5.3%.

The urban surveyed unemployment rate in 31 major cities was 5.2%, 0.1% lower than the previous month.

The employees of enterprises worked 48.8 hours per week on average, the data noted.

By the end of the third quarter, the number of rural migrant workers totalled 187.74 million, up by 2.8% year on year.

Further data from the Bureau showed that the gross domestic product (GDP) in the first three quarters saw a year-on-year increase of 5.2% at constant price.
