Canada: Average Weekly Earnings Rise

Average weekly earnings of nonfarm payroll employees in Canada rose 4.0 percent to C$874.83 on a seasonally adjusted, year-over-year basis in February 2011, Statistics Canada reported today.

Average weekly earnings rose in every province year over year in February. Growth was above the national average in Alberta, Quebec, Saskatchewan, and Newfoundland and Labrador. Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island had the slowest growth.

The administrative and support services industry posted the largest average weekly earnings increase, 8.2 percent to C$749.97 in February. The slowest growth was reported in the retail trade and construction industry.
