Australia seasonally adjusted jobless rate climbs to 3.7% in October with monthly hours worked on the rise

Australia’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate in October increased to 3.7%, up 0.3% over the previous year, according to the latest data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics.

Among states, Queensland recorded the highest unemployment rate at 4.3% in October. New South Wales recorded the lowest rate at 3.4%.

The number of unemployed persons totalled 547,800 in October up 13.2% (64,000 persons) over the year and 5.4% (27,900) over the month.

Meanwhile, the number of employed persons totalled 14,173,500 in October, up 3.0% (418,900 persons) over the year and up 0.4% (55,000) over the month.

The labour force participation rate in October stood at 67.0%, up 0.3% from the prior year period and up 0.2% over the prior month.

Monthly hours worked in all jobs increased to 1.93 billion in October, an increase of 1.7% (33 million) over the year and 0.5% (9 million) over the month.
