Australia – Seek job ads hit record high in November

14 December 2021

Job ads on job board Seek Australia were up by 50.0% in November 2021 when compared to November 2020 and up 51.8% when compared to November 2019.

Seek job ads in November broke last month’s record high.

At the same time, Seek job ads were up 1.1% month-on-month. Applications per job ad declined by 9.4% over the month and were down 51.8% compared to the same month two years ago.

Kendra Banks, Managing Director, Seek ANZ, said, “Even a nominal 1.1% increase in job ads speaks volumes about the state of the market, with the lead-up to Christmas traditionally a time where businesses scale back on talent hiring. Instead, we had more job ads on our site than ever before.

“While not all states and territories experienced an increase in job ads from October to November, demand across the nation remains higher than pre-pandemic levels,” Banks added.

On a month-to-month basis, Northern Territory (4.3%), Queensland (3.3%), South Australia (1.9%), Tasmania (2.7%) and Victoria (3.6%) all experienced the highest job ads on record this month, while Western Australia (0.8%) equalled the state record for job ads it first reached in April 2012.

On an annual basis, Victoria saw an increase of 63.2% over the year, the highest growth among the states.

Among the sectors, the Advertising, Arts and Media sector saw a jump of 102.2% over the year.
