Australia – Seek average advertised salaries up 4.4% annually in November

05 January 2023

Average advertised salaries on job board Seek in Australia grew by 4.4% in November 2022 when compared to November 2021. The slight uptick in annual growth is related to the Covid-19 lockdowns of late 2021.

On a quarterly basis, when comparing August to November, average advertised salaries were up 1.3%. On a monthly basis, the increase was smaller at 0.5%.

Seek Senior Economist, Matt Cowgill, said, “In August and September, it appeared as though advertised salary growth was moderating. But the 4.4% rise in the year to November is the same as the pace we saw in the year to June.”

Cowgill continued, “This remains a very tight labour market, with the unemployment rate at a near 50-year low and job ads still well above pre-Covid levels. The state of the market is reflected in strong growth in advertised salaries as businesses are in a bidding war for talent. This trend in advertised salaries is likely a sign that overall wages and salary growth will continue to pick up.”

Seek job ad data published last month showed that job ads on Seek declined by 8.2% in November 2022 compared to November 2021 while applications per job ad are 14.4% higher over the year.
