17 May 2018

New job ads in Australia recorded an uptick of 16.5% in April when compared to the same time last year, according to the latest data from SEEK.

SEEK’s data showed that every industry recorded an increase in April, with the Mining, Resources & Energy sector recording an uplift of 62%, year-on-year. This was followed by Community Services & Development which saw 49% year-on-year growth. Western Australia was the largest contributor to this sector, accounting for 800 new job ads in April.

In April, every state and territory posted an increase with Tasmania topping the rankings with 35% growth compared to April 2017.

Meanwhile, Healthcare was Australia’s biggest employer in April, accounting for 13.7% of the entire workforce and increasing by 19% in April.

“As one of the sectors driving overall employment growth in Australia, the Healthcare industry recorded a 19% year on year growth in April and saw more than 2,000 more new job ads than at the same time last year,” Kendra Banks, Managing Director SEEK ANZ. “There are a real variety of roles within both healthcare and community services that are experiencing significant growth thanks to our aging population, as well as the rise of chronic diseases which require on-going healthcare management and support.”
