Australia – Freelancer.com international platform to face court in Russia for refusal to localise Russian users' data (Interfax)

A magistrate's court in Moscow will have a hearing at the end of July to process a motion from Federal Communications watchdog Roskomnadzor against the Australia-based Freelancer International Pty Limited over its refusal to localise the personal data of Russian users in Russia, Interfax reports. The hearing of an administrative offense motion against Freelancer International Pty Limited will begin at 11:30 a.m. on 28 July" the court told Interfax. The motion is based on the failure of an operator gathering personal data to comply with the duty of recording, systematizing, accumulating and storing personal data of Russian citizens in databases in Russia. The offense is penalized with a fine of up to RUB 6 million (approximately USD 101,650). Separately, Russia also fined Zoom and Apple for failing to localise Russians’ data.
