Australia – Average advertised salaries up 3.7% in September

01 November 2022

Average advertised salaries in Australia rose by 3.7% over the year to September 2022, according to the Seek Advertised Salary Index.

The Seek Advertised Salary Index (ASI) measures the growth in advertised salaries for jobs posted on Seek in Australia. This report examines national trends up to the month of September 2022.

The 3.7% increase was down from 3.9% in the year to August.

In the period from August 2022 to September 2022, advertised salaries grew by 0.3%. This was down from the monthly growth seen in August and July (0.4%) and June (0.5%).

Over the quarter (from June 2022 to September 2022) advertised salaries grew by 1.1%.

Seek Senior Economist Matt Cowgill said, “Advertised salaries are still growing at a decent pace, but they’re no longer racing ahead like they were earlier this year.”

“The moderation in advertised salary growth is a good sign for inflation. We’re not seeing wages and inflation spiralling,” Cowgill added. “Workers will be less comforted, with advertised salary growth lagging the cost of living.”

“Changing jobs is still the best way to get a pay rise, with advertised salaries growing faster than overall wages. But the bidding war for jobseekers has eased a little in recent months,” Cowgill said.

Job ad data from Seek published in October showed that job ads were up by 15.5% in September 2022 when compared to September 2021.
