SI Review: January/February 2013

Letter From the Editor

When your child turns 18, it’s a big deal. So, happy 18th birthday Staffing Industry Review. It’s been an exciting journey. I have to thank you, our readers, for your support. Yes, we know that you have many demands on your time. Competing with the proliferation of interesting news and views on TV and the Web has been challenging for us.

But that’s where we have a distinct advantage. Our mission is to help you do your job better and grow the business. Listening to our readers is what enables everyone at Staffing Industry Review to deliver a magazine that is informative and engaging, issue after issue. Business intelligence mixed with how-to items and sprinkled with smart networking opportunities is what we produce.

This special issue has much food for thought. Amy Bingham’s feature explores the importance of face-to-face networking. And she even shows you how. Robin Mee delves into internal recruiting — a must-read if you are thinking of expanding in the coming year. Managing Editor Craig Johnson’s cover story on the general manager of the Oakland A’s reveals how smart utilization of analytics makes for a great team.

As a bonus, we showcase our analysts, who give you tips and trends that will help navigate the ups and downs of business. It’s an action-packed issue with new departments like Beyond the Daily that will stimulate dialogue. Read it and continue the conversation at the Executive Forum, where you will be able to network with all of Staffing Industry Analysts’ analysts and many of our contributors.

As always, please feel free to reach out to us with any ideas and suggestions. I’d be more than happy to discuss these with you personally at the Executive Forum in ChampionsGate, Florida. We hope the magazine will continue to help you open doors. I wish you much success in the coming years.
