Best of the Web: H-1B Visa Woes ... Again

The H-1B visa program has always had its fair share of critics. But recently, misfortune has been dogging it. There was the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services’ Neufeld Memo in 2010  that prohibited staffing firms from being able to bring in H-1B visa holders. USCIS was sued over the matter but the case was dismissed. Now, staffing firms are able to bring in workers on H-1Bs but they are still having trouble.

Now, a criminal investigation is under way. The issue is one of immigration fraud. An Indian outsourcing firm is under investigation to determine whether it tried to circumvent the H-1B program by seeking business-traveler visas for contract workers. As a result, the U.S. State Department has (markedly) increased its rejection rates for both types of visas, especially from India.
