Google’s contract workers meet with VP Harris and secretary of labor

Contract workers at Google who work through HCL met with Vice President Kamala Harris and US Secretary of Labor Marty Walsh on June 21 in Pittsburgh, the United Steelworkers union announced.

The contract workers are members of the USW. They voted to join the union’s Federations of Tech Workers in 2019 and are still working to negotiate their first contract. The group includes 80 tech workers at HCL who work alongside directly employed Google workers at a location in Pittsburgh.

“Today’s meeting is an encouraging reminder that workers have allies in the White House and throughout this administration,” said HCL worker Wynne Lanros in a statement released by the USW. “It’s heartening to know that we have leaders who do more than just talk about supporting working people. They actually back up that talk with action to support them and their voices.”
