Amazon to add 3,500 tech and corporate jobs, disperse key roles outside Seattle headquarters

Amazon announced plans to add 3,500 new tech and corporate jobs across six US cities.

The tech giant will spend $1.4 billion on nearly 1 million square feet of new physical office space in Dallas, Detroit, Denver, New York (Manhattan), Phoenix and San Diego as it disperses its corporate footprint.

Amazon, which employs more than 50,000 people in and around its Seattle headquarters, has been at odds with the Seattle City Council for years over its impact on the community, and efforts by the city to impose new taxes on big businesses, GeekWire reported.

“These 3,500 new jobs will be in cities across the country with strong and diverse talent pools,” said Beth Galetti, Amazon’s senior VP, human resources. “We look forward to helping these communities grow their emerging tech workforce.”

Teams in these cities will support various businesses across Amazon including AWS, Alexa, Amazon Advertising, Amazon Fashion, OpsTech and Amazon Fresh. The company expects to hire for a variety of roles, from cloud infrastructure architects and software engineers to data scientists, product managers and user experience designers.

In addition to these future plans, Amazon is currently hiring for nearly 20,000 positions in the US across tech, corporate and customer fulfillment.
