Michigan hospital group supports bill targeting nurse staffing providers

The Michigan Health and Hospital Association last month announced it supports Michigan House Bill 6364, which requires licensure of nurse staffing providers and includes provisions to ensure their employees cannot be prohibited from being hired full time by healthcare facilities.

“The MHA supports HB 6364 because it would help to address exorbitant contract labor expenses that threaten the financial sustainability of hospitals,” the organization wrote.

The bill, which is sponsored by Sarah Lightner, R-Springport, was introduced on Sept. 7.

Several states are taking aim at nurse staffing providers with new laws. In a blog post, attorney Stephanie John at law firm Mintz describes some of the legislation.
