Poll finds 85% of nurses struggle with burnout

A survey by NurseGrid, a nationwide network of nurses, found that 85% of nurses are struggling to manage burnout on at least some level.

The poll of more than 12,000 nurses took place between Sept. 4 and Sept. 11.

“It’s clear that the nation’s nurses are providing patient care in a heroic manner in the face of Covid-19; however, our survey results show that for many nurses, it is coming at a personal cost to them,” said Robert A. Frist, Jr., CEO of HealthStream, which acquired Portland, Oregon-based NurseGrid in March.

“Less than one-fourth of nurses strongly agreed that they have a healthy diet, exercise regularly, have healthy sleep habits, and are able to effectively decompress after work,” Frist continued.

Still, the poll also found that 80% of nurses reported strong agreement that their work is meaningful to them.
