Zego, a London-based startup that offers insurance to gig economy workers such as those in Deliveroo and Uber, has raised $42 million in funding. The funds will be used for Zego’s expansion across Europe and to increase its workforce from 75 to 150. According to TechCrunch, the latest Series B investment round takes the firm to a total of $51 million in funding. Zego caters to services such as ride-hailing, ridesharing, car rental and scooter sharing, and offers a range of policies from minute-by-minute insurance to annual cover, with pricing based on usage data from vehicles. The firm currently insures one-third of the U.K.’s food delivery market, largely through partnerships with Deliveroo, Just Eat and Uber Eats.

Slatecube, a Nigerian cloud-based recruitment platform startup, announced that it will be launching in South Africa. According to Disrupt Africa, Slatecube support businesses in integrating top entry-level talent into the workforce, with two independent solutions. Slatecube Workforce is a cloud-based recruiting service that helps businesses build talent pipelines, while Slatecube Accelerate is a learning platform that uses AI-driven technology to help job seekers identify and acquire in-demand skills.
