World – CareerBuilder confirms appointment of new CEO and cuts jobs citing sales of international business

22 May 2023

Following unconfirmed reports, job board operator CareerBuilder has now named Jeff Furman as CEO and confirmed that it recently cut jobs.

“Like all companies, CareerBuilder continuously evaluates our workforce needs to most effectively support our corporate strategy,” the company said in a statement to SIA. “CareerBuilder recently underwent a workforce reduction in connection with certain divestitures of global businesses and the continued simplification of our organizational structure.”

CareerBuilder did not provide details of the number of staff layoffs though the number has been put as high as 60% of all staff in other reports.

Kariera SA, a job board operator based in Athens, Greece, announced this week that it had acquired CareerBuilder’s international businesses.

“Jeff’s appointment comes as part of a planned succession supported by the execution of the company’s strategic plan,” CareerBuilder said in its statement. “Jeff is a five-year veteran of the company and an experienced business executive. Prior to CareerBuilder, Jeff held senior executive roles at several Fortune 500 companies including American Express and Tyco International.”

US-based CareerBuilder ranked as the 19th-largest global online job advertising firm prior to this acquisition with revenue of $275 million in 2022, according to Staffing Industry Analysts’ “Online Job Advertising Market Update” report.
