UK – “Society must do more to create fulfilling and decent jobs” – Staffing Quote of the Week

09 May 2017

Ahead of a speech tonight, job tsar Matthew Taylor, who is leading an independent review of employment practices in the modern economy, has stated that bad work conditions and insecure contracts show that “society must do more to create fulfilling and decent jobs.

“Bad work is all too common,” Taylor’s prepared comments for the speech state. “We need, therefore, to talk about quality of work, and not just quantity. For most of us, work is one of the most important things in our life,” so it should therefore be good for us and good for society. In the prepared remarks, published by the Independent, Taylor will define good work as “fair and decent with scope for fulfilment and development”, something which should be a “realistic aspiration for people at all stages of their careers, in all types of employment and at all levels”.
