UK — Slow down in the rise of unemployment

08 July 2009

A new survey of 400 recruitment companies to be published tomorrow by the Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC) and KPMG reveals that last month’s fall in staff appointments was the lowest for 13 months, the Financial Times reports today.

“I will be surprised if we don’t get a positive number next monthâ€VbCrLf, Kevin Green the REC’s Chief Executive told the FT.

Billings for temporary staff have equally fallen at the slowest rate since September 2008.
The report also highlights the shortage of internal audit personnel, chefs, software experts and personal assistants, which comes as a surprise in the current UK jobs market.

“Although the rate of decline for temporary and permanent placements continues to slow it is probably too early to talk about a recovery in the UK jobs marketâ€VbCrLf. Said Mike Stevens, Head of Business Services at KPMG.
