UK – Royal Mail wins injunction to stop 48-hour strike (BBC News)

13 October 2017

Royal Mail has won an injunction in London’s high court to halt a planned 48-hour strike next week by postal workers, reports BBC News. The workers were set to walk out in protest over wages, pensions and jobs. This would have marked the first protest since the Royal Mail was privatised in 2013. Royal Mail argued that the planned strike would be "unlawful" if the Communication Workers Union (CWU) did not follow dispute resolution procedures. Members of the CWU voted overwhelmingly in favour of strikes last week. The CWU added that it was disappointed in the decision while Royal Mail stated that “We will now make contact with the CWU as a matter of urgency to begin the process of external mediation”, and that they are “very committed to working closely with the CWU in order to reach agreement as a matter of priority."
