UK – PageGroup hacked, jobseeker personal information leaked

11 November 2016

Recruitment firm PageGroup has confirmed that it has fallen victim to a data breach that has compromised the personal information of jobseekers, reports the International Business Times.

PageGroup has confirmed that an alleged lone hacker broke into its network and was able to access the personal information of its job applicants. The data breach occurred when the hacker infiltrated a development server run by Capgemini, PageGroup's IT outsourcer. PageGroup first found out about the data breach on 1 November but informed customers of the breach on 10 November.

According to PageGroup, the hacker did not access any CVs.

"We have ensured the website is secure," PageGroup stated.

The company also stated:

"We are treating this issue very seriously and are working with our IT vendor, Capgemini as a matter of urgency to fully investigate how this incident occurred and to put in place measures to ensure it does not happen again.

"Capgemini fully manage our PageGroup websites and is regarded as a global leader in consulting, technology and outsourcing services. It has all the appropriate security certificates and ISO certifications in place, which we believed would ensure that the website environments would be secure and safe in their hands."

According to the Register, the unnamed hacker has since promised they have destroyed the data and the company is "confident that they have done so."  They also told the Register that the hack was not a malicious attack.
